The whole process was amazing. Matt and his team were easy to work with. The old flooring was removed in 1 day, and the new flooring was installed in 3 days (1800+ sq ft of vinyl). I highly recommend Landmark Flooring!

Luxury vinyl flooring — sold as luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and luxury vinyl tile (LVT) — has become the most-requested floor in Carson City and across Northern Nevada, and for good reason. It looks remarkably like real wood or stone, it shrugs off spills, scratches and muddy paws, and it stays stable through our dry high-desert summers and cold mountain winters. At Landmark Flooring we both supply luxury vinyl from leading manufacturers and install it with the skilled installers we use, so one local team is accountable for the floor and the labor.

What is LVP / LVT — and why it is so popular

Modern luxury vinyl is a multi-layer floor built around a tough, dimensionally-stable core. A high-resolution print layer gives it convincing wood-grain or stone visuals, and a clear wear layer on top — commonly 12 to 22+ mil on residential products — protects against scratches, scuffs and dents. Most of the LVP we install is rigid-core (SPC or WPC), which is 100% waterproof and locks together over the subfloor with a click system, so it can go in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and basements where solid hardwood simply should not.

  • 100% waterproof: spills, pet accidents and mopping won't swell or warp a quality rigid-core LVP.
  • Scratch & dent resistant: a thicker wear layer stands up to dogs, kids and busy entryways.
  • Climate-stable: rigid-core vinyl expands and contracts far less than solid wood — a real advantage in Northern Nevada's swings from arid heat to freezing nights.
  • Warm & quiet underfoot: many planks include an attached underlayment for comfort and sound.
  • Easy to live on: routine sweeping and the occasional damp mop is all the maintenance most floors need.

Styles & looks

Luxury vinyl comes in wide wood-look planks, classic narrow boards, and stone- or tile-look squares — in everything from pale Scandinavian oak to deep walnut and weathered barnwood. Wider, longer planks read as more upscale and modern; tighter graining and matte finishes hide everyday wear. In our Carson City showroom you can see and feel real samples before you commit.

Is luxury vinyl right for your home?

LVP is the floor we most often recommend for whole-home installs, pet owners, families with young kids, and rental turns — anywhere durability and water resistance matter. If you want the genuine warmth and long-term resale value of real wood, compare it with our hardwood flooring; if budget is the priority, see how it stacks up against laminate.

Great fit when you want…

  • A waterproof floor for kitchens, baths, basements or the whole house
  • Worry-free performance with pets and kids
  • A real-wood look without real-wood upkeep
  • Durable, cost-effective floors for rentals and turns

Consider alternatives if…

  • You specifically want the resale value & refinishability of solid wood
  • You want the softest, warmest surface for bedrooms — see carpet
  • Your subfloor is very uneven (it may need prep first — we'll assess it)

Cost & pricing guidance

Installed luxury vinyl typically runs in the range of $7–$15 per square foot for materials and professional installation, depending on the product's wear layer and core, your subfloor condition, and extras like old-floor removal, stairs and trim. Caring for your luxury vinyl floor

Luxury vinyl is the lowest-maintenance floor we sell, and unlike laminate it is genuinely waterproof — so damp-mopping is fine. Most of its care is about protecting the wear layer.

  • Routine cleaning: Use a soft-bristle broom to remove loose dirt, then damp-mop as needed with clean water and a non-abrasive floor cleaner. Harsh cleaning chemicals should not be used on luxury vinyl.
  • Spills: Clean spills up immediately and wash the area with a non-abrasive floor cleaner.
  • Never drag furniture: Never push, pull or drag furniture across a vinyl floor — always lift and carry. Fit flat, non-staining floor protectors to heavy furniture and appliances that are rarely moved.
  • Protect it from direct sun: Close curtains or blinds where extreme sunlight hits the floor. The combination of heat and sunlight is what fades or discolors most home furnishings, and a south-facing Northern Nevada room gets plenty of both.
  • Vacuuming: Avoid a vacuum with a beater bar, which scuffs the wear layer.
  • Spot stains: For spot stain treatment, use a diluted bleach solution of 1 part bleach to 10 parts water.

These are general guidelines. Always follow the specific care instructions that come with the product you buy — requirements vary by manufacturer and by wear layer.

Luxury vinyl FAQ

Is luxury vinyl really 100% waterproof?
Quality rigid-core (SPC/WPC) luxury vinyl is 100% waterproof — water won't damage the plank itself. Seams are highly water-resistant for everyday spills and mopping; for standing water in wet areas we'll recommend the right product and installation details for your room.
Is LVP a good choice for pets and kids?
Yes — it's one of the best. A thicker wear layer resists scratches from claws and dents from dropped toys, and the waterproof surface wipes clean after accidents and spills, which is why it's our go-to recommendation for busy households. See our best flooring for pets and kids guide.
Can you install luxury vinyl over my existing floor?
Often, yes — rigid-core LVP can frequently go over existing hard surfaces if they're sound and flat. We always assess the subfloor first; some floors need prep or removal for the best long-term result, and we'll tell you honestly what yours needs in your free estimate.
